PROS of Living in an HOA (Homeowner's Association) | REALTY-V #18

REALTY-V | Season 2, Episode 18 The typical Florida HOA Community provides you with a maintenance free lifestyle. Ahhhhhh.... The HOA takes care of the grass, the landscaping, the pool, lakes, fountains and all of the amenities. This is a big plus if you’re: retired and tired of home maintenance; a first-time home buyer who doesn’t own all the extra equipment like lawnmowers and so on, or if you just simply don’t have the interest or the time for these activities. HOA’s are typically gated but not always. It does help to keep the door to door salesmen away – definite plus! It can provide built-in socializing with like-minded people. Potluck’s, book clubs, golf outings, community garage sales, new parents, etc... AND you can WALK home after happy hour! Remember, these friends will also be watching out for you and your home during a storm, or while you're away. For many people the HOA community offers a more affordable home because the amenities are shared. And, the floor plans are replicated (with variations) which brings down the cost to build. It's this cost savings that either reduces the payment or allows homeowners to spend the same amount of money but buy in a better location. THE #1 reason for an HOA though is really the amenities. Golf, tennis, gulf access, community pools, fitness centers, movie theaters, salons, parks, trails, private restaurants – all catered to fit YOUR lifestyle. When you buy into an HOA you buy into a set of rules about the way you will maintain your home, where you can park, the types of animals you can have, etc.... This gives you some level of confidence that you’ll be able to enforce your standards BUT This is a double-edged sword so make sure you understand the rules before you buy in or you won’t have a very good experience if you clash.
