This video is a DIGITAL copy of one of my first efforts to capture the last days of steam hauled passenger & freight trains in New South Wales using a windup 8mm movie camera, I believed the film had been lost like a lot of my earlier 8mm films, after I converted to super 8, using the magic of a electric motorised Nikon camera, which I still own. A former employee of NSW railways like my self, we both were railway apprentices in the 1960's contacted me to advise he had found a reel of film, which belong to me, after it had been reprocessed to digital and when viewed, realised who the owner was. The main reason he knew it was mine as it had the only movie coverage of the Southern Aurora interstate passenger train on the main western line at Tumulla, this was the first time a southern line passenger train had been diverted to the western line due to a bushfire blocking the line south of Goulburn. Because of its age the film is showing signs of deterioration but thankfully it is still viewable. Other scenes on this reel of film are 3830 on its speed run to Newcastle, brief footage of the now closed Toronto line, A Saturday afternoon Rail Transport Museum mystery tour around Sydney & out to Waterfall, as well as steam bank engine workings at Tumulla & a special steam tour of 2606 leading and being assisted in the rear by a 30 class tank up Tumulla bank.
