Alexander the Great had rebuilt the sanctuary. In Roman times, the temple complex integrated into a fortress. The mosque of the holy man of Luxor Abu el-Haggag was overbuilt in the eastern part of the first court. Under it there is debris of a Coptic church from the 5th century. The mosque stands about 9 feet above the level of the temple since the time of its construction. The temple was spilled up to this level.
