The film is also known as Amavasya Chandrudu in Telugu. Kamal Haasan got the basic idea of the storyline from "Butterflies are free"((1972), an Oscar winning actress " Goldie Hawn").This drama tells the tale of a blind violinist, Ragu (Kamal Haasan), and a young lady, Nancy (Madhavi) who is keen on chronicling Ragu's inspiring life as a visually impaired but independently living person. Their relationship blossoms into a romance that is supported by Nancy's lighthearted and comical grandfather (L.V. Prasad).
