The UK's first Battery Electric Multiple Unit on test!
The UK's first production built battery powered train is now undergoing testing on the UK Mainline this week. The Class 230's are upcycled London Underground D Stock Trains which were originally built by Metro-Cammell in 1978 and withdrawn from the District Line in 2017. Vivarail are now converting them into Diesel Multiple Units, Battery Electric Multiple Units and Diesel Battery Hybrid Units as a cheap and emission friendly train for the national rail network. During it's third day of mainline testing, Vivarail's 230002 arrives into Moreton-in-Marsh from Evesham. These battery powered trains are intended for Transport for Wales - and yes, they still sound very much like they did on the Underground!
