A rain of confetti and champagne. A night that changed history for the city of Denver. The Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat 4-1, conquering the first title for the Denver franchise. It is the Nuggets’ first NBA championship in their 47 NBA seasons, the most seasons played by a team before winning a title. Nikola Jokić was the MVP of the finals, the Serbian talent averaged over 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in the NBA finals. The joker has taken his game to new heights this postseason with one of the best playoff run in history. He was dominant with his scoring, rebounding and passing, leading the league in the postseason in all three categories: points, rebounds, assists. The Nuggets' last game was not pretty. It was somehow frenetic, tense, and doomed by bad shooting. Denver missed 20 of its first 22 three-point attempts and seven of its first 13 free throws. Yet, the Nuggets found a way to close out the series. “ it was ugly and we couldn’t make shots,” Jokic said after the game. “ But at the end, we figured it out.” What did it take to win a title? “Luck,” he told me.
