12 de Octubre de 1968 dan comienzo los Juegos de la XIX Olimpiada en el Estadio Olimpico de Universitario de la Ciudad de México con la liberación de un globo con forma de los anillos olímpicos, en seguida los contigentes de las 112 naciones participantes desfilaron. Pedro Ramírez Vázquez presidente del comite organizador y Avery Brundage presidente del Comite Olímpico Internacional dieron los discursos de bievenida, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz inauguró los juegos y Enriqueta Basilio encendió el pebetero olímpico. October 12, 1968, the Games of the XIX Olympiad begin at the University Olympic Stadium of Mexico City with the release of a balloon in the shape of the Olympic rings, followed by the contingents of the 112 participating nations paraded. Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, president of the organizing committee and Avery Brundage, president of the International Olympic Committee gave the welcome speeches, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz inaugurated the games and Enriqueta Basilio lit the Olympic cauldron.
