CarnEvil (Arcade) - No Continues, Easy Health - 2,574,870

Here's a 1CC (no continue) playthrough on Midway's dark and gory 1998 rail shooter CarnEvil. This was played on MAME 0.251, using a GUN4IR, which is a very good PC light gun. CarnEvil is an infamously unfair game, with lots of cheap hits and bugs that put players at a disadvantage. This cheapness makes a 1CC on all default settings feel impossible, as you will take more unavoidable damage than you can recover life. Because of this, I'm playing with the Player Starting Health set to "Easy" -- that's one below the "Normal" default level, and one above the absolute easiest "Very Easy" option. Both the general difficulty and Monster Strength settings remain at default "Normal" settings. My goal was to 1CC this game while changing as few settings as possible. A bug in Rickety Town, which involves a bumper car that hits you off-screen, also takes half your life by default. It is because of this very bug that I play Rickety Town first at full life, take that damage, pray I survive Krampus, then earn back my life in the Haunted House and Freak Show levels. My run is likely to fail if I play levels in a different order. I bring a machine gun to bosses whenever I can--it's very damaging. However, to do so, I must conserve ammo by tapping my gunfire on regular enemies. Haunted House has a magazine extend power-up that gives your gun more shots. It lasts until you die, and lets you rapid fire bosses more. This, naturally, is a very important thing for 1CCing the game. Scoring in this game makes zero sense to me. Only thing I know is you can score bonus points by shooting projectiles in mid-air, and you can juggle them back and forth for more score! You see me do this with the elves' Christmas presents. You can't do this forever, though, since the camera will eventually advance forward, putting you at risk of getting hit by something off-screen. Outside of bosses, you can deal with most enemy encounters without a scratch; it just takes memorization. I used to own a CarnEvil machine years ago, so I have had some practice with this game!
