DJ Quik explains analog tape vs. Digital Processing 🤓🎛️💽

DJ Quik explains the analog tape processing vs. digital processing 🤓📼🎛️ Hello everyone, in this video we’ll be discussing the difference between analog and digital recording. Analog recording has been used since the early days of music production. Analog recording is done using tapes, and manual recording equipment. This equipment is capable of capturing and manipulating sound waves in their physical form; something digital recording can’t do. When recording in analog, the signal that is being recorded is converted into electrical format, then stored as sound waves on a tape. This makes it easy to edit and mix the audio later on as all the performances are recorded side by side at the same time. This helps with getting a natural sound from the recording and can help add an extra charm to the mix. On the other hand digital recording uses the computer for the production. Recording in digital means the sound is converted into digital data and stored on a computer. This enables an engineer to manipulate the performance with software such as Pro Tools or Ableton Live. Digital processing also offers more options to change the sound of an instrument or vocal. For example an engineer could use auto-tune to correct out of tune vocals or use plugins like DJ Quik to add some flavor to the track. The most important difference between analog and digital is that analog is good for capturing a natural performance while digital is focused on manipulating sound so it fits better with a certain genre of music. In conclusion, analog and digital recording are two very different approaches to music production. While each has its own merits, it really depends on what style of music you want to produce and what sort of sound you are looking for in your track. Thank you for watching this video. I hope this has been helpful in explaining the difference between analog and digital recording.
