There are 4 main sizes of ukuleles; Soprano, Concert, Tenor, and Baritone. In order to choose the right ukulele for you, we first have to decide the following: Do I want a traditional ukulele sound? Do I want a deeper sound? Do I want to learn the ukulele for the purpose of learning the ukulele? Do I want to learn ukulele first and then transition to the guitar? If you want to learn the ukulele and are looking for a more traditional sound, then what you want is a ukulele with strings G C E A. Soprano, Concert, and Tenor ukuleles have these strings. If you want to learn the ukulele, are looking for a deeper sound, and are hoping to transition to the guitar, then the baritone ukulele is the instrument for you. Baritone ukuleles have the strings D G B E. If you play guitar already, you will make a very smooth transition into the baritone ukulele and you might even enjoy how much easier it is to play those painful barre chords If you play guitar already and you want to transition to the standard ukulele, then all of your finger-picking and strumming skills will serve you well. You will probably enjoy how much more compact the ukulele is compared to the guitar. ********** If you're buying the UKULELE FOR A CHILD who is a beginner, I recommend starting with the traditional ukulele. This is because some key chords are easier on the traditional ukulele. Why? Because MANY songs have chord F. In baritone ukulele, chord F requires a higher level of skill and hand strength. On the soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles F chord is MUCH easier to learn.
