Preserving intangible cultural heritage | Tim Betz | TEDxNorthampton Community College

When you visit a museum or think of history you probably often think about the tangible things but what about those pieces of cultural heritage that involve making things with your hands. Dr. Tim Betz discusses why we should be preserving intangible cultural heritage. Tim Betz is the Curator of Exhibitions at the Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society in Easton, PA, and has been in museums in various capacities for the last decade. He recently completed and published a book, Making History: Makerspaces for Museums and Historic Sites, which explores how learning and teaching historic trades and crafts is an important way to learn about the past for museum goers, museum professionals, and scholars. He teaches art history at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and is completing his PhD in history at Lehigh University. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
