The Ask the Experts series is formatted as a Q&A with an opportunity for patients to pose questions to panelists at the time of registration, as well as ask questions live. For this session the experts are Dr. Shenoy, a cardiologist, and Dr. Syed, a rheumatologist. For more information on Sarcoidosis, please visit this site: https://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/ About Experts: Dr. Shenoy: Dr. Chetan Shenoy is a cardiologist and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Cardiovascular Division at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also an NIH-funded clinical researcher. His research efforts are focused on the clinical applications of cardiac MRI in improving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart muscle diseases, or cardiomyopathies. One of the cardiomyopathies that he focuses on is cardiac sarcoidosis, and he has contributed papers in leading journals on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac sarcoidosis. Dr. Syed: Dr. Syed is currently the Program Director for Rheumatology at VCU. Dr. Syed completed her undergraduate education at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. She went on to complete her medical school training, Internal Medicine Residency, and Rheumatology Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She joined faculty in 2012 and is currently an Assistant Professor in Medicine. Dr. Syed’s clinical and research interests lie in sarcoidosis. She is one of the founders of the Multi-disciplinary Sarcoidosis Clinic, the only one of its kind in Virginia. In addition to disease process and treatment response, she is also interested in health disparities that affect sarcoidosis patients. She has been recognized for her excellence in teaching by medical students and fellows, and received the Department of Internal Medicine at VCU Excellence in Teaching Award in 2016 and the Department of Internal Medicine at VCU Excellence in Clinical Practice in 2020.
