Is it normal to have unstable lie head down position in 20 weeks of gestation? - Dr. Shefali Tyagi

You just got your anomaly scan done and the doctor said that it is a breech or it is transverse lie and you are really worried about how you will have abnormal delivery. Don’t worry, the baby actually keeps moving round and round till 36 weeks of pregnancy. At 20 weeks, it is of no importance, which lie the baby is in because the baby is going to turn. Majority of babies try to turn to head down position which is considered normal unless and until there are other factors like the cord is short or the shape of the uterus is not correct or it is slightly different, or if the placenta is low lying, all this can make the baby lie in a different position such as breech or transverse. So by 20 weeks, whatever the position the baby is lie, don’t worry, you have ample time and by 36 weeks, the baby takes a prominent position and then we get to know if it is a head down or what lie it is and then the doctor can take a call if it is a head down or an unstable position.
