I wrote this quite a while ago. I would have liked to have written a full arrangement of it for anyone to download, but too late now as I've completely given up music. Originally, I wanted to have it sung along with a dance troop. But...nearly all of the vocalists I've worked with want to turn the clocks back to the 1930s and sing nothing but the American songbook (whereas I wanted to turn the clocks back to 1855 when the poem was written). A dance class I approached didn't want to know as they thought Hiawatha was too childish for them. I don't regard it as childish but one of the greatest evocative poems from an American poet. Needless to say, I never got anywhere with it - for the record then here it is. The vocal line is played on the piano. The alto sax solo is by my good friend Trevor Kaye who was overcome with emotion when he heard it. Trevor, who died some years ago from cancer (a melanoma), would be so happy to know that so many people have heard him play. This was a head arrangement so is not at all polished. Apologies for the poor sound of the strings - it's the only string sound I had at the time. Please note that there are some lines where a bit of a pause might be needed to suit the poem better. This can be done quite easily by inserting a few beats. Apologies for the mis-spelling in the title but it's had a positive effect on the search engine. American Indians/Indigenous people knew so much about living in harmony with the environment, whereas the former American administration, led by a man-child, wanted to destroy it and the lives of future generations.
