My Best Doom Metal guitar tone so far

Signal Chain: -Harley Benton DC Kit (SG copy) Wilkinson Alnico 5 Humbuckers (B standard tuning, 56 gauge, wound G string) -ProCo RAT 2 -Acapulco Gold DIY Clone (Musikding kit) -Katana 50 MK1 (Acoustic Channel) -Ownhammer Impulse response (Heavy Hitters 2) Lately I have been a little dissatisfied with the tones I was getting when recording the Orange Crush Pro 120 through the FX send. My main tone was the RAT into Orange dirty channel, FX send into audio interface. It is a great tone, but when playing power chords and drone stuff it was lacking. Sadly the Orange Cr120 doesn't take all pedals as well as it takes the RAT. I was not able to get a good tone with the Acapulco and Pharaoh, despite many hours of experimentation. I did a few videos where i recorded these pedals directly into the Audio Interface with decent results, but even with a good IR, i felt that these pedals did not sound to their full potential. So i decided to try them through my old Katana 50, that I have not used in over a year. After some tweaking in the Katana Boss tone Studio i was able to get this tone. Witch to my ears is one of the best doom tones i have been able to produce. I bypassed my audio interface and recorded the Katana directly with its USB out into my DAW. I felt that my Tascam US 2x2 interface was perhaps colouring the tone a little, so i decided not to use it. What is interesting is that the guitar tone hitting the DAW almost doesn't need any EQ in Logic. There is only a high pass filter and slight boost at 2-3 kHz. The guitar signal chain is the smallest i have ever used: Impulse response, EQ, compressor. Thats it. I think I now understand the importance of getting the tone right at the source. (I know this is usually said about about miking cabs, but i feel that this is also true when recording direct.) Of course one day i dream of recording a Matamp GT150, or an Orange Rockerverb cranked in an iso-cab. Hehe. But for now i work with what i have and try to make it sound as good as i can!
