Interviewed by Uday Kapoor on 2019-03-07 in Mountain View, CA X8969.2019 © Computer History Museum Wayne Rosing was born in 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio and spent his childhood in Phoenix, Arizona. His training has been in mathematics, physics and astronomy. He is a computer engineer by vocation and has been programming, doing computer and electronics and optical design and telescope engineering since high school. He studied at UC Berkeley and was an engineering manager at DEC and Data General in the 1970s. As an engineering director at Apple Computer in 1980 he led the Lisa project and then at Sun he led the hardware development for products such as the SPARCstation. He served as a CTO at Caere Corporation and then as VP Engineering at Google. He retired from Google in 2005 and founded Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network at Goleta, California. In May 2005 he was appointed a senior fellow in mathematical and and physical sciences at the University of California, Davis, and continued to serve as an advisor to Google.
