Mystical Trek to the breathtaking Buxa Fort

There is a fort in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal called Buxa Fort, located in the Buxa Tiger Reserve. Bhutan's King used the fort to protect Bhutan's route connecting Tibet with India. A clear origin is not known. Bhutan's King and the Cooch Kings fought over the fort before it was occupied by the British. After the British intervened and captured the fort, it was formally handed over to the British on November 11, 1865 as part of the Treaty of Sinchula. British engineers rebuilt the fort's bamboo wood structure into a stone structure. By 1930, the fort was to be used as a high security prison and detention camp. During the 1950s, Subhash Mukhopadhyay was also imprisoned here. It was later in one of his stories - মেঘের গায়ে জেলখানা (Megher Gaye Jail) that he provided an in-depth description of this jail.
