Our India Adoption: Bringing Home Kusuma We started our India adoption process in March 2023 and just over a year later, got to travel to Hyderabad to bring our precious daughter home! 🇮🇳 After getting her written adoption orders making her officially our daughter, we had a two week wait before needing to travel to India, which then changed to 1 week, and then I received a call from the SAA manager on Friday, March 29th that we needed to be there THAT Monday...WHAT?! There was a holiday coming up in Telangana that meant government offices were shutting down, which meant we wouldn’t be able to do Kusuma’s passport appointment when we had originally planned to. If we missed this opportunity to get there by April 1st, we would have had to wait to travel until the end of the month, so with less than 24 hours notice, we booked our guide, flights & a hotel, went shopping for the remaining baby essentials, & packed everything for the 3 of us. The next afternoon, we flew out of Pittsburgh. Our trip started off with a delayed flight. Wes talked to the desk and they moved us to a different airline so we would make it to Chicago for our connecting flight to Dubai. That original flight ended up being cancelled, so it was such a God thing that we ended up getting the last two seats on the flight to Chicago and the rest of our travel to India was on time and so smooth! God moved mountains to get our girl home as fast as possible throughout our entire adoption process, so why would he stop then? 5 hours after we landed in Hyderabad, we were in the car and on our way to meet Kusuma! We met her April 1st and spent some time bonding with her. We then had a meeting with the DM of Sangareddy on April 2nd to answer some questions and then she granted custody! The following day we had her passport appointment and the day after that, spent time doing a little shopping in Hyderabad before flying up to Delhi for even more appointments. We landed back in Pittsburgh on April 13th and our Kusie girl has now been home 3 months and life is so much sweeter. 🇮🇳 The 10 days we were in India were some of the most difficult days of our life, but we would do it 100 times more for our sweet Kusuma.
