When this year began, I knew my work will take me back to Sierra Leone. Motorcycles are the common means of transport in many parts of the country. As a motorcycle enthusiast, I thought it would be great to take on an adventure ride from Ghana to Sierra Leone where: (1) the motorcycle will be of significant importance to my daily work commutes and (2) I will have the opportunity to take my Flying Flags adventure beyond Ghana. So on March 7, I set off to Elubo where I was not allowed to cross because the land borders of both Ghana and Ivory Coast were still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I was advised to get crossing permits from Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and the Ivorian embassy in Accra, respectively. Several weeks have gone by and none of these agencies gave any swift attention to my applications. However, Ghana's land borders would later re-open whiles Ivory Coast's remain closed. I hunted for several alternatives and eventually I decided to switch from the main borders Elubo (Western Region, Ghana) and Noe (Ivory Coast) to sub-borders Oseikojokrom (Western North, Ghana) and Niable (Ivory Coast), hoping that they would be considerate.
