This video explains resonance and the rules that need to be followed while writing them. Certain compounds can be expressed in more than one Lewis structure and these structures are equivalent in position of their atoms but differ in the position of electrons. These structures are called resonating structures and the effect is called resonance effect. Rules for writing resonance : 1. Position of atoms in compound should remain same. 2. Total number of paired & unpaired electrons should be same 3. If charges are present, negative charge should be present on electronegative atom. 4. Like charges should not present on adjacent atom Follow the rules while writing resonance structures.
