This place gave meaning to the words "fast food" and that is Maid-Rite, the oldest of its kind still standing! Not too far from the State Capitol and downtown Springfield (IL), hungry patrons can still get a bite of loose meat sandwiches, fries and their homemade root beer. They do have other menu items as well! They do claim to have the world's oldest drive-thru window, as well as the fastest. The building was built in 1924, although some sources say earlier years. It can also be considered a popular Route 66 landmark, because it is not too far from the Mother Road.
