In this video, we’ll be unboxing and reviewing the Casio SA-76. Recently, we decided to hop on Amazon and see what the most popular and highly reviewed digital pianos and keyboards are for this 2020 holiday season. First Impressions The first thing you should know is that this instrument does not come with a power adapter. It supports an adapter, but it’s an optional add-on (9.5 V DC Adapter.) It does function with 6 AA batteries however, and that’s what we’ll be using in this video. Another thing worth mentioning right away is just how inexpensive this instrument is - under $100 in most markets. That said, it does a lot of things other similarly priced musical toys simply don’t do, such as the fact that it’s actually in tune! There’s 3 and half octaves of range, 100 different tones to choose from, along with 10 songs and 50 patterns. Three Playing Modes Mode #1: Tone Mode This is essentially a basic piano mode that allows you to play like the instrument like a real piano. There’s acoustic piano sounds, electric piano, strings, organs, etc. Mode #2: Pattern Mode Pattern mode is where you get into the 50 pre-loaded drum rhythms. This is of course a super fun feature so players of all ages. Mode #3: Song Bank Mode Song Bank Mode gives you access to all of the pre-loaded songs, such as Nutcracker, Little Brown Jug and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Rhythm Triggers There’s also 5 different buttons that function as rhythm triggers for bass drum, snare, hi-hat and two bongos. Who is This Instrument Made For? We can say it’s definitely not made for someone looking for an inexpensive MIDI controller since there are no MIDI outputs. It’s great for toddlers for exposing them to various sounds, but they keyboard itself is not at all durable. But for anyone looking to get a young learner excited to see if there’s some musical interest there at all, this would be a nice fit, especially for kids aged about 3-6. In Summary For the price, this is a great way to expose someone to basic musical concepts. It’s highly portable which is a huge plus, though the lack of MIDI output prevents it from being anything more.
