YouTube Sensation BoostedBoiz Kyle Visits FuelTech USA

FuelTech USA gets all sorts of visitors at its Ground Ball, Georgia location from professional drag racers to some of the most rad tuners and car builders in the high-performance sphere. Recently BoostedBoiz Kyle, most known from his YouTube channel that has nearly 1 million subscribers and over 205 million views, showed up to hang out. He will be FuelTech products on some of his upcoming high-profile builds, showcasing the engine management’s adaptability from 5,000 WHP Pro Modifieds to his four-cylinder engines. Kyle was treated to a walk-around of a turbocharged Toyota MR2 that has been powered by a FuelTech engine management system for over ten years. Known as Mr. Turbo, the MR2 sports a Gen 3 J-spec engine that was first controlled by a FT300 ECU, however the unit was replaced several years ago with the top-of-the-line FT600 engine management system. The street-bound MR2 uses the FT600 slightly differently than the hardcore drag race vehicles that frequent the FuelTech YouTube channel. The vehicle’s street functions—like blinkers—are run through the FT600 engine management. A SwitchPanel-8 helps add inputs utilizing a CANbus connection and offers a clean layout for starter button and other electronic duties. Despite the unique use of the FT600, the ECU still retains its ability to operate a boost controller, traction control, sequential injection and ignition, and many other standard features. The owner even added a set of FuelTech Smart Coils to help light off the potent charge of fuel and boosted air. After enjoying the sights and sounds of Mr. Turbo, Kyle got a treat by going for a ride in one of the most insane twin turbocharged C8 Corvettes around. The FuelTech Corvette test mule was an early adopter of turbocharging the 6.2L LT2 engine. Despite the transmission/clutch restrictions, FuelTech was still capable of coaxing 750+ WHP on mild boost. The factory ECU and a FuelTech FT600 work in tandem to keep the Corvette driving smoothly at part-throttle as well as under boost. The FuelTech FT600 activates an auxiliary set of fuel injectors once the two Garrett turbochargers begin to create positive pressure in the manifold. Those injectors are fed a steady diet of VP Racing Fuels M1 methanol thanks to stand-alone fuel system that utilizes an Aeromotive fuel pump. Running methanol eliminates the need for an intercooler. The factory injectors inject VP Racing Fuels MS109 for high boost settings and 93-octane pump gas for daily driving. A pair of FuelTech WB-02 Nano sensors monitors the engine’s air/fuel ratio so the team accurately and consistently dials in the calibration. On the street, the vehicle is tame as the boost is turned down to prevent problems with the transmission and clutch setup, it is a complication that will be remedied shortly as the aftermarket catches up.
