You asked a really good question about how ofter you should have intercourse while trying to conceive. There is conflicting information out there and I've actually seen that couples should conceive everyday AND every other day. I've seen both is well known, renowned literature. What I would go by is this, you're most fertile for six days out of each month, five days leading up to ovulation and on the day of ovulation. Most women ovulate 12 to 16 days before their next period is going to begin. So, if you've been tracking your cycles and you know about when your going to ovulate, then the idea is to time intercourse with ovulation. Now, sperm can live inside a woman's reproductive tract for two to three days. This is why you're most fertile for a few days leading up to ovulation, because the sperm can survive and then fertilize the egg once you actually ovulate. In order to time it correctly though, without thinking too hard about it, my suggestion is that you have intercourse every other day from the time your period ends. Do this for one and a half to two weeks until your pretty sure you're outside your most fertile window. The theory is that a man will have more time to rejuvenate or replenish his store of sperm before you have intercourse again. making it more likely there is a large number of sperm that can then fertilize an egg.
