Labour’s first budget in 14 years will be delivered at the end of the month. The Prime Minister and Chancellor have already been warning that the public isn’t going to like what’s in it; they’ve been describing it as ‘painful’, and the only way to fill the supposedly unknown £22 billion black hole in the public finances. Recently, they’ve also been accused of planning to break a manifesto commitment after repeatedly refusing to rule out increasing employers’ national insurance contributions. How will the budget really affect people? Will Labour break its manifesto commitment? Is it really true that things have to get worse before they get better - and is Labour being completely honest?
