Auto Race is a electric car ride that opened in 1930, designed by Harry Traver of Traver Engineering. The original ride, still in its place today, replaced the park's old Racer roller coaster (1910 - 1926). Vintage style motor cars first careened the course, which had hills on its straightaways. The hills were removed in 1948 due to cars colliding when the wooden track was wet. That same season, redesigned streamlined cars were replaced, the same ones running today. Auto Race changed it's name to Auto Ride in the 1950's, but was eventually renamed back into Auto Race in the 1990's. The ride received a new operating system in 2013, and since then, the cars are only running at half their original speed. Other than removing the hills and retrofitting the cars, Auto Race has relatively not changed and is the last surviving Traver auto ride in the world.
