Simple 1 transistor VFO circuit. From my book "2-10 MHz Shortwave receiver and 1 transistor VFO's", in which I describe a 5 transistor (the audio amplifier excluded) Shortwave radio for 2-10 Mhz. Author Ko Tilman, you can find it on the Lulu website. The only flaw from the circuit is that it has its tank circuit tapped in the middle, so the tank circuit is not completely connected to ground on 1 side. This makes the VFO vulnerable for hand effect, but, though, it is a very usable and working circuit. A "better" oscillator (VFO) with its tank circuit on ground is published in this book too, so don't worry. All oscillator circuits must be made sturdy with components that are not sensitive to temperature changes, otherwise the VFO frequency will change and the radio station to which you have tuned will slowly or quickly "disappear". Also a stabilized voltage is necessary.
