Genial Walter Lechner acted as promotor, team boss and even driver of his "REX-Finale" at Zeltweg. Top races of Interserie, ÖTM, ÖRM and historic touring cars were overshadowed by the death of Austrian BMW-driver Hannes Wustinger in Saturdays ÖTM race. The Interserie hardly ever presented a faster field of many F1-monoposti, Indy-Cars and prototypes. Lechner won in his Spyder-Judd, beating the likes of Markus Hotz (Horag-Audi), Karl Hasenbichler (Penske-Buick), Günter Gebhardt (Lola), Ali Abdoh (Lola), Heinz-Harald Becker (Minardi-Ford) Carl Rosenblad (Arrows-Judd), Joachim Ryschka (March), Helmut Bross (Argo), Ruedi Jauslin (Gebhard), James Taylor (Jordan-Ford), Ranieri Randaccio (Osella-Fondmetal) and Johan Rajamäki (Arrows). Lechner, Treml, Quester and Astrid Grünfelder were competing in touring cars. Toto Wolff tried his luck in Formula Ford, but was beaten by a certain Helmut Kopp...
