These 20kg blocks of caramel from a food production client in the USA presented us with one of our biggest challenges. The caramel was delivered in 20kg blocks and at an ambient temperature of 9.5°C in our workshop, the caramel was absolutely solid and looking very unpumpable! In this food industry video, we show the hardness of the blocks by using a hammer! Using the BestPump 'BlockBuster' screw feeder system to pump the unpumpable, we successfully rework the caramel blocks and then pump the reworked caramel via pipework and even a 'shower-head' extruder to produce thin strands that are more easily mixed or more quickly melted than the original solid block.
