Dennis Johnson was an American professional basketball player in the NBA, playing for the Seattle SuperSonics, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics. He also coached the Los Angeles Clippers and attended Dominguez High School, Los Angeles Harbor College, and Pepperdine University. A classic late bloomer, Johnson overcame early challenges to achieve a successful NBA career. Drafted 29th overall in 1976 by the Seattle SuperSonics, he started as a shooting guard and led the team to their only NBA championship in 1979, earning the Finals MVP Award. After three seasons with the Phoenix Suns, he joined the Boston Celtics as their starting point guard, winning two more championships. Johnson was selected to five All-Star Teams, one All-NBA First Team, one Second Team, and nine consecutive All-Defensive Teams. Renowned for his defense and clutch plays in playoff history, Johnson's legacy is significant. The Boston Celtics retired his No. 3 jersey, which hangs in the TD Garden. Posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, Johnson is often regarded by sports journalists as one of the most underrated players of all time.
