The frontispiece however, collapsed on 14 August, 1949. It was re-constructed the following year and blessed on 17 December, 1950. Christianity in Chandor existed much before the construction of the Church. Chandor was an extension of the parish of Curtorim. The parish feast, of Our Lady of Bethlehem is celebrated on the 6th of January every year, with three boys chosen from the parish who play the role of the Three Magi. They descend from the Chapel of Our Lady of Piety on horseback to the church, in a colourful procession just before feast High Mass begins. After the mass, they proceed to their respective homes accompanied by their family members, guests and a brass band. St. Alex Church, Curtorim, Goa is popularly called ‘The Curtorim Church’ locally in Goa. The Curtorim Church was first built in 1597. A Bigger structure was built in 1647. St Alex was declared the titular saint of the church by the Apostolic Brief of 13.1.1815. The entire facade of the St. Alex Church, Curtorim, Goa was rebuilt in the late 18th Century around 1780.
