EXPLORING THE EPIC PARADISE "River Trail" @ Sunrise! | Smith Rock State Park | Central Oregon | 4K

Smith Rock State Park is most definitely a TOP 3 State Park in the entire State of Oregon.....I would include it along with Silver Falls State Park & The Cove Palisades State Park (I have Video Playlists available of all 3 on my Channel)! Smith Rock State Park could very easily be a National Park as far as its quality and beauty, and it is considered the birthplace of modern sport climbing both in America and the World! After initially descending into the High Desert Wonderland Canyon and crossing the Bridge over Crooked River, there are 3 different Trailheads to choose from: 1) to the Left is River Trail, the most famous Trail at Smith Rock State Park. The Trail hugs the Shoreline for miles through the heart of the Canyon and is the primary access Trail for the majority of the Climbing Zones. It is relatively flat and the easiest Trail and is the heart and soul of Smith Rock State Park! This Day-Hike was timed for the epic morning sunrise glow on the GORGEOUS canyon faces, starting at River Trail Trailhead before sunrise and hiking parallel to Crooked River ultimately to Monkey Face Landmark and a bit beyond as my turnaround point. I explored several of the primary Climbing Zones of River Trail – Morning Glory Wall, Dihedrals, Asterisk Pass, Phoenix Buttress, and a few others with beautiful panoramic expansive viewpoints! Weather was below freezing chilly and quite windy with a low of 29F at the start of the Hike, high of 54F, with beautiful classic blue bird sky. This was hiked on 11/8/2021, with Autumn Fall Colors and the Trail was completely clear of snow, and there were of course NO Mosquitoes! 2) in the center is Misery Ridge Trail, the most technically advanced and dangerous Trail at Smith Rock State Park. You climb a narrow winding Trail up and over the Top of the Park. There is some risk associated as people have unfortunately fallen to their death down the steep precipice, so one should take this Trail seriously with the proper amount of respect and always practice situational awareness! Personally, I would not consider this a kid-friendly Trail because of the risk. 3) to the Right is Wolf Tree Trail, the least travelled (and most underrated) Trail at Smith Rock State Park. The Trail explores the Eastern part of the Park and hikes by a gorgeous Lone Wolf Ponderosa Pine with a contemplating bench underneath it, hence the namesake for the Trail! There are several Shoreline access points, a couple Climbers Zone (the lions share is down River Trail though), and ultimately the Trail climbs up to Burma Road. The Trail, as you ascend the final section, has some very high quality Moneyshots of the Forested Canyon Basin of Smith Rock State Park! This Day-Hike was timed to be a little after Sunrise to capture the Beauty of the Canyon from the Upper Overlook in Light, Weather was chilly and quite windy with a low of 38F at the start of the Hike, high of 51F, culminating in dark grey ominous clouds and heavy rain later in the morning! This was hiked on 11/5/2021, with Autumn Fall Colors and the Trail was completely clear of snow, and there were of course NO Mosquitoes! As far as road conditions, it could not be more easy, paved roads all the way to the parking lot. In my opinion, the road most definitely DOES NOT require 4-Wheel Drive, of course do so at your own risk! As far as permits, the River Trail Trailhead DOES NOT require a Recreation.gov permit but IS a State Park so IT DOES require a Permit/Pass.
