In this video I make the cotter to secure the over arm bracket to the support bar of my Adcock and Shipley 1A milling machine. I wanted to ensure that this cotter would effectively provide plenty of clamping force so I decided to produce a general arrangement drawing. The cotter was machined on my Super 7 lathe and the milling machine. It was found that in use the cotter provides ample clamping force with just a light use of a spanner on the 1/2in Whitworth nut. in the next video I hope to do an analysis of how the cotter works to explain why it is so effective. Also I plan to complete this phase of the project. 00:00 Introduction 00:58 Design of cotter with drawings 02:56 Rough turning of cotter 06:02 Milling of part I of cotter 09:09 Preparations for painting casting 09:22 Finish turning cotter 11:25 Screw cutting 1/2in Whitworth thread 13:22 Turning female part of cotter 17:17 Milling female part of cotter 19:40 Making custom washer 20:28 Fitting of cotter into casting 21:31 Testing cotter for first time live Related video on producing the casting for the support bracket: • Making castings in Pakistan for my mi...
