In Norse mythology, the Dark Elves, myrkálfr, are murky beings who live in a dwelling named Svartalfheim "home of the black elves". The locations of svartálfar and Svartálfaheimr are attested in the Prose Edda, written by Snorri Sturluson. The elves of Svartálfar appear alongside the dwarfs and also the dökkálfar, "dark elves". The dark fields known as Niðavellir are probably a variant description of svartálfar, the dwelling of the dwarfs. Individual Dwarfs are found in Svartálfaheimr's "world of black elves" and appear in the Prose Edda twice.
