LOGIC PRO X - All About Fades

In this episode, Jono is having an in-depth look at Fades. Mostly, he'll concentrate on how they can help us manage the transitions between audio files which, if we're not careful, will click whenever we use the Scissors Tool to chop them up. If we simply slap one audio file next to another, it's unlikely that the flow between them will be smooth, as we'll hear when we bounce two pad sounds to audio, checkboard-edit them and press Play. The clicks at the join points are hugely obvious. Analysing crossfades, equal-power crossfades and curved fades, Jono will take you on a tour of Logic's possibilities, to help you make musical choices about how to work with the borders of audio regions. Towards the end, he'll also show you how to create and control a Fade Out for your whole track. 00:00 Intro 00:36 Track Playback 00:57 Bouncing Pads as Audio 02:03 Multiple Divide 03:16 Checkerboard edits - non-contiguous audio 04:35 Playback - clicks! 05:12 Fade In and Fade Out 06:22 Crossfades 07:47 Analysing each pad 08:27 Crossfades aren’t always useful 09:10 Equal Power Crossfades 10:56 Adding Positive and Negative Curves 12:25 XS Crossfades 13:40 Using the Fade Tool 14:38 EqP crossfades in context 15:58 Chopping a rhythm into audio region 17:38 Tiny fade in and outs to manage clicks 19:05 Automating a Fade Out to the whole track
