3 tips for digital marketing in China | Need-to-know

Read our in-depth guide to digital marketing in the China here: https://bit.ly/3zI4xwu China is an attractive market for brands wanting to expand internationally. It’s got the largest internet population in the world, with 989 million citizens being online. But be warned – the Chinese digital landscape looks totally different from anywhere else in the world. The country has its very own search engines, social networks and e-commerce websites. This can be challenging for foreign businesses unfamiliar with the market. But never fear, this video will go through the most important things you need to know about digital marketing in China. We’ve also written a full-length guide on this topic. Check it out using the link in the description if you want to learn more. Let’s start by looking at China’s search engines. There’s no point in focusing on Google when you’re targeting China, as Google is blocked in the country. Instead, your SEO and PPC efforts should focus on Baidu. Baidu is the most popular search engine in China, accounting for 72% of all searches. Be aware that Baidu works quite differently from Google for both SEO and PPC. This means you either need to learn how Baidu works, or partner with an agency that has experience with Baidu, like Webcertain. Now, let’s take a look at social media. Most Western social platforms are blocked in China, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr and more. This means you can’t use these platforms for your Chinese social media marketing. Instead, you should focus on local social platforms, like WeChat and Weibo. WeChat is the most popular social platform in China. It’s sometimes referred to as a “super app”, as it allows users to do a huge range of activities, all within the app. On WeChat, you can message friends, share photos, order takeaways, book tickets, shop online, order professional services, leave business reviews, pay utility bills, and more. And finally, let’s look at e-commerce. In the West, when you think of e-commerce, you probably think of Amazon. In China, however, it’s not particularly popular. Instead, local e-commerce platforms reign supreme, so you need to sell your products on these local platforms if you’re to succeed. The top e-commerce sites in China are Taobao, Pinduoduo, JD.com and Tmall. Do you have any questions about digital marketing in China? Let us know in the comments below!
