“Boy A” (2007) (Movie Review with Spoilers)

"Boy A” is a drama film based on the novel by Jonathan Trigell. It stars Peter Mullan and Andrew Garfield with Shaun Evans, Siobhan Finneran, Katie Lyons, Jeremy Swift and James Young. Screenplay by Mark O’Rowe and directed by John Crowley. The movie follows the story of Jack, a young man who is released from prison where he was sentenced after committing murder as a young child. Jack has a mentor named Terry who helps him transition back to society. After all seems to be going well for him, his old identity is brought to light and Jack finds himself completely destroyed once again. “Boy A” is a one of a kind film that explores one of the heaviest subjects in life, which is murder. It explores many topics that keep affecting us today: bullying, abuse, rehabilitation… It has wonderful performances by all the actors, special kudos to Andrew Garfield. After reviewing the film itself I realized it was based on a book which I am very interested in reading. Everyone involved did a great job in the film and I cannot praise it enough.
