Macallum is a working-class neighbourhood of George Town, Penang. A large portion of the land here is reclaimed from the sea in the mid 1970s for the construction of low-cost flats to house the working class of George Town. The area derives its name from Macallum Street Ghaut, the road that extends in to sea. The whole area of sea was reclaimed and a neighbourhood was created out of it. On this walk, which I did in the heat of the afternoon, I want to show you how the area is like. It is certainly not a touristic part of George Town, and not a place that many visitors would go to.
