Warning: Some parts of the video get loud/preamp-clippy, and also some parts of the video are inaudible unless you are using headphones, earphones, or good speakers. I present to you the Synth Voice Deluxe by Broughton Audio (AKA the Jolly Green Giant, as I call it). The SVD is an expanded take on his previous Synth Voice pedal, which is an original circuit from Josh, and includes variable low pass filter controls for each voice. The SVD also boosts the signal internally to improve sustained-note tracking from the original. The 'voices' are Clean, Synth, and Sub, representing the unaffected signal, a unison signal, and an octave-lower signal. The inclusion of a unison voice is, in my opinion, a boon for those of us bass players wishing to use the octave pedal for synth bass, particularly when working with no clean signal. On other octavers, in order to play what you want to play, you have to transpose it up an octave-- this can be quite awkward on bass. The controls are volume of each voice across the top row and a filter for each voice across the bottom. Keep in mind these filter controls are wired backwards, like in vintage synths-- turning the filter "up" takes away treble content, turning it "down" lets it back out. The quality of the SVD's tone is something between a sawtooth and a square, but when you turn the filters all the way up, what you get is essentially pure sine tones. This, along with the unison voice, let you do a lot of things that normally are inaccessible or impractical within other octavers. I initially thought that this would kick the Octabvre MKIII off my board, but to my surprise they co-exist in harmony. Signal chain is MIM Fender Precision w/ La Bella flats, played fingerstyle, tone wide open - Synth Voice Deluxe - Scarlett 4i4. The only manipulation to the footage or audio is panning the audio a little bit to balance it out, and flipping the video (both due to my janky setup!), as well as some cuts here and there for quality assurance purposes.
