Highlights from the Video Volunteers Annual Report 2021-2022

In the year 2021-2022, Video Volunteers reached a huge number of people. Each video, on average, documented a problem, a ground reality that affected nearly 35,000 people. And we reported more than 1500 stories last year. Impacts achieved by our community correspondent have benefited 3.2 million people, in total. In the year 2021-22, we trained ASHA workers to use social media and citizens of Tea Gardens in filing Right to Information applications. During the pandemic, we reached out to more than 7 hundred thousand people in-person with accurate information about Covid, mostly by taking loudspeakers and posters into the community with autorickshaws, and also 5,000 children, to whom we screened videos in their schools. Our WhatsApp-based distribution network reached Covid information to an additional 2.5 million people. We wish to take this work to the population scale by applying platform thinking. More content creators. Innovative, tech-based rural distribution networks. Turning the insights citizens share in our video into disaggregated data. And co-creation with local officials. We observed this year that for 30% of videos there was government official support and that for 50% of their videos the CCs visited an official. These positive conversations between citizens and officials hold so much promise for improving the relationship between citizens and the state in India, and for creating active citizenship.
