If you're a seafood lover, the Tisreachem Fest (Feast of Clams) might be something you'd love to know about. For this episode of Goan Appetit, we attended a local Goan festival, said to be one of the most unique feasts in Goa— a celebration of clams. Nearly 20 baskets of clams are cooked and served to the people. This community feast takes place in the village of Nerul, Bhatti ward, on the second Sunday of May. In the morning, the celebrants clean the clams (seafish) and make the preparations ready. After the traditional litany (ladain) is held, the entire ward relishes the ‘tisreo’ or clam preparations, either made in the form of ‘tonak’ or ‘xacuti’. If you love Goa’s seafood, then make it a point to visit this feast in Nerul in North Goa.
