Scott Grainger, the cosmetic chemist, the creator of this recipe has this information: Cinnamon bark essential oil is the one to avoid in cosmetic products - it contains high quantities of a chemical called cinnamaldehyde which is severely irritating. Cinnamon leaf essential oil is the preferred choice, but even then it's limited for similar reasons to around 0.5% in soaps. In this recipe we have less than 1% cinnamon powder, which is bark - but the actual levels of essential oil in the powder is low - also, it is "bound" inside the particles so has very limited availability in terms of skin contact.
