Metal King Studio- Relicblade starter set "Storms of Kural !"

My new Storms of Kural boxed set came in today. Now, I may have the original starter set, but I'm a sucker for these types of starter sets. I love the almost board- game like concept of having everything you need to begin playing right out of the box. That concept seems to be lost on some of the bigger wargames and skirmish games these days. One thing I've always appreciated about Relicblade, besides being a quick and easy to learn skirmish game, is it's pretty much been a one man show from the very start by the very talented Sean Sutter. I've got a lot of respect for artists that are able to see their dreams reach fruition in such a tangible way. It's also cool to see a game continue to grow and refine itself, and really, that's what this set does. Very minimal cleanup and prepwork is needed for the models outside of clipping off some flash and gluing the figures to the bases. There's no extra bits to worry about if you're put off by building miniatures (although there's plenty of that to be had with expansion characters). The models themselves have a lot of character and veer away from the tropey traditional character types (although some of those have been relegated to other factions now). I like the variety of baddies and heroes on display here- squids, skull headed undead, wild pigs, lizards, gun toting gnomes and a swashbuckling hero make for some visually different and distinct characters to use. The rules are quite straightforward as well, and the new rulebook is nicely laid out with plenty of background lore and explanations of how to play.
