Having been to Vietnam three times I'd say don't come here for the beaches. I love it for other reasons. I like the people and I think it's quite an adventure. They are much better in Thailand and in the Philippines and there is more to do after the beach in those places. I am basing this on having just spent 2 weeks in Phu Quoc and having been to beaches in Vung Tau, Nha Trang, Danang and Hoi An, as well as a few to the north of Nha Trang.
