Do the rich pay too much tax? How did rich members of the capitalist class get rich in the first place? What is surplus value extraction? And most importantly, what color is the Swedish flag? A response to two videos: “Do the Rich Pay Their Fair Share?” by Lee Ohanian and PragerU (Prager University) and “New Yorkers SHOCKED To Learn THE TRUTH About Tax Rates In America” by Ami Horowitz and The Daily Wire Both videos attempt to persuade us that rich Americans pay an unfairly high portion of the tax revenue, or at least pay enough already and should not be taxed any higher. The complaint that the rich pay too much tax sounds laughably absurd to most people, but many change their mind after hearing the “facts” presented in these videos. That's how people react in the street interviews that Ami Horowitz conducts in The Daily Wire video: a rapid and total change of opinion. In this response video I will 1. Show that PragerU and The Daily Wire distort and misrepresent the facts to exaggerate how much tax the rich (or, more specifically, those making an income that places them in the top one percent and top ten percent) actually pay. 2. Acknowledge that a large portion of tax revenue is paid by the rich 3. Critically examine the argument that most liberals make to justify this: “Those who can afford more should pay more.” 4. Assert that this liberal argument is flawed, because it implicitly accepts the false notion that the rich subsidize and support the rest of us. 5. Make the case that the opposite is true, at least when it comes to rich capitalists, who are the majority of the rich. I contend that it's the working-class who support and subsidize the rich, because it is the working-class who produce their wealth. In the next video, the sequel to this one, I will address the question: Do rich people who are not capitalists pay too much tax? As in this video, I will be approaching the question from a socialist perspective. This sequel video (part 2) will be released within a week of this video (part 1). ====================================================================== Would you like to help me and my channel?
