What a contrast between the two ends of the line. It is 26 miles before the first station, so remote is the wilderness that the train traverses. In the process, we encounter two crossing loops with their associated signal box - still operating semaphore signals in time-honoured fashion. We see inside most of the boxes on the line including the state of the art West of Scotland Signalling Centre with its IECC computer controls. What a contrast this is. From remote single track line running through moorland to double track electrified commuter line running through Scotland's largest conurbation and from pulleys and cables of mechanical signalling to computers, visual display units and electronic interlocking, this is a DEV of great contrast.
