Can the energy that fuels thunderstorms really heat your drink? Find out in the latest video from UW's atmos outreach group! Description of experiment 1/ Freeze 2 cans of your favorite beverage. This should take roughly 7 hours depending on your freezer. 2/ 15 minutes before taking out the cans, preheat oven to 250F and start boiling water in a pot. Place cookie rack on top of pot. 3/ Take cans out of freezer and place one in the preheated oven and one over the boiling pot. 4/ Start timer for 10 minutes. 5/ After 10 minutes, carefully remove can from oven and pot. 6/ Crack open both cans and pour into separate glasses. 7/ Take a photo/video of the two cans and glasses, and post a video response. CAUTION: Leaving a can in the freezer, oven, or above the boiling pot for too long may cause the can to burst. Careful viewers may note that the oven temperature of 250°F is above that of boiling water (212°F at sea level pressure). We couldn't set our oven to be the same temperature, so we pushed it to be higher than the air above the pot, yet the can above the pot still warms much faster.
