Strong M7.2 Solar Flare From Region 3878 - Another Large Prominence Eruption - Happy Halloween

Solar activity reached high levels with three M-class flares observed from Region 3878 the largest was an M7.2 at 30/20:53 UTC. The flare produced a bright flash of X-rays and UV radiation, but it failed to lift a CME out of the sun's atmosphere. Region 3878 was also produced two M1.0-class flares and an M1.4 today (Oct. 31). The active sunspot is poised to explode again. AR3878 has an unstable 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for X-class flares. The sunspot is turning toward our planet. If the next blast is more complete, it could hurl a CME directly toward Earth. Region 3875 produced an M2.4 flare and Region 3876 an M1.2 on Oct. 31. SOLAR PROMINENCE Other activity included a large prominence eruption. A solar prominence located off the south limb of the Sun lifted off beginning around 07:30 UTC (Oct 31). Although some of the plasma was reabsorbed by the Sun, a CME may have been produced.
