An exclusive presentation and Q&A session with the award-winning author, and Scarborough native, Catherine Hernandez. Catherine also was a screenwriter for the film which was adapted from her novel with the same name was an official selection at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Catherine's talk will be focused on "What Would Ms. Hina Do," based on the beloved character in Scarborough, exploring themes of community solidarity and pride, the importance of education, and other themes. The character of Ms. Hina is of course emblematic of what Scarborough stands for and is stronger because of it. She will also do a brief Q&A session. TIFF People's Choice Runner-Up 2021. Adapted from the critically acclaimed novel by Catherine Hernandez, Scarborough is an unflinching portrait of three low-income families struggling to endure within a system that’s set them up for failure.
