ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE ↓ Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, located in southwestern Uganda, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, including approximately half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. This ancient rainforest, spanning over 300 square kilometers, is not only a crucial habitat for endangered species but also a cultural treasure, home to several indigenous Batwa pygmy communities whose heritage is intertwined with its dense foliage and rich fauna. Mountain gorillas are the only gorilla species experiencing population growth, thanks to intensive conservation efforts. Approximately ~460 gorillas call Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda home, benefiting from these protective measures. Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offers substantial benefits to wildlife, as tourism revenues contribute directly to conservation efforts and habitat protection for endangered mountain gorillas. The presence of tourists also raises awareness about the importance of preserving Bwindi's biodiversity and ecosystems, fostering a culture of conservation. Local communities benefit through employment opportunities in tourism-related enterprises, education programs funded by park fees, and the promotion of sustainable practices that safeguard both their livelihoods and the environment for future generations. We had an exceptional experience on our latest gorilla trek led by our guide, Yuventine. It was a privilege to witness the Rushegura group, a family of 16 mountain gorillas. We were lucky to meet each individual up close and personal, including Kabukojo, the dominant male silverback, and Rutabaro, the youngest member who’s only a few months old.
